Four-horned Hair Sheep

Four Horn Painted Desert hair sheep came from the same rootstock as the Navajo four horned sheep. The Spanish brought them to the new world during the Spanish conquest of the Americas. These sheep were brought out of Mexico in the mid 1950's for hunting ranches in Texas. Our family of four horned sheep was obtained from a hunting ranch in Texas by Mr. Ed Bissel of New Market Tennessee in about 1976. Ed spent twenty years working on these sheep to improve the horns and the clean hair coat (free of wool). These sheep come in all colors, they twin frequently and they double breed frequently. They produce a high percentage of four horned ram lambs. We believe there are less than 300 head of quality Hair Four Horned Sheep in the U.S.
